spacer Tubbys Set 1960's
King Tubby’s Hometown Hi-Fi started life in the late 1950’s with a 15” bass bin (pictured) and two 12” mids/tops (the two pictured are from the Active Sound). This would be the classic set up from which much bigger sounds grew. Tubby was noted for adding horns (tied up in trees) when playing outside and adding reverb and echo for the Dj’s on the set. Tubby was an electrical engineer by trade and made all his own high quality equipment. In the early 1970’s Tubby set up a studio for voicing and mixing from which Dub soon began to appear! The WASP sound started in the 1950’s but this Bass bin is from the 1960s and sits along side a mid 12” from the UK Lord Koos sound and a single box from a JA rural sound ‘Count P of Goshen’. The WASP box served into the 1980’s by which time it was bright silver in colour.
